DANSE MACABRE

"For you were made from dust and to dust you will return"
Today I thought I might share a little sneaky peek of a recent project that I've been working on. In a nutshell, Danse Macabre is a womenswear collection designed by the fashionably fabulous budding designer Stephanie Caltabiano who explains "The adornment of the body is a portrayal of each fragment of the story of a contemporary Frida Kahlo. Glamour and grit, pain and love, freedom and restraint are contrasting themes depicted as characteristics of the heroine. Elements of the Day of the Dead culture are expressed in a feminine and artistic play on macabre imagery."
Needless to say, the collection transcends your "run of the mill" fashion creations by intertwining itself with philosophical concepts and ideas that push the boundaries of our understanding of life and death, and of course, Fashion. To design a dress may be no great challenge to some, but to produce a dress that challenges the wearer to confront their existential position? Now that's an achievement. That is Art.

You Are So Precious..and all we have is this moment

I really do love shooting portraits, and never more than when outside on soft grass, in a gentle breeze and bathed in golden sunlight.
All at once I am reminded of how precious and fleeting life is, the moment I look through the lense and behold a life in front of me, enjoying a single moment that will never be repeated-only relived in years to come,  a memory frozen in time.  The image will live on once the body has turned to dust, but then it will too succumb to age one day, as all things do. Everything on earth ends, even our dear little lonely planet will one day be engulfed by an imploding sun, which, for the time being, continues to light my shot in this one perfect moment, creating a lovely memory...

Australiana Dreaming

Recently I've been thinking about this gorgeous country, with its unique Fauna and Flora that holds such amazing beauty it overwhelms me. I cannot properly articulate these feelings of mine, and even if I could find the words that make my heart swell with love when I see the riches of this land they would never suffice more than what I can produce visually.
So I have set myself a new project of creating a body of work that celebrates this beautiful country the only way I know how...
Dream Photography!
The image above is still in its final stages, but I hope that you enjoy it all the same. I've always had a fantasy of being able to run (technically jump) with the Kangaroos, the exhilaration of flying through the misty morning air as the rising sun warms the dewy, frosty grass...

Robert McFarlane is an accomplished Photojournalist and Writer who has been working in the industry for the last 45 years. I spoke to him briefly about the piece, but he sums up my aim as an artist with this simple statement;

"when I saw the wonderful photo-illustration created by Angela Rose Woods (pictured above) I had to acknowledge what may be dreamed, can now be made real"
